A Sunday Ramble about Reaction Videos

Today, I rewatched the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar... through someone else watching it for the first time on YouTube. It's funny because it seems odd—why watch someone else watching something instead of just watching it yourself? Do you get it?

The internet is packed with videos of people reacting to things for the first time. The amount of content in this genre shows that it's a popular way for YouTubers to build and maintain their following. So, there must be something to it.

One thing I've realized is that these reaction videos are only cool to watch if you've already seen what they're reacting to yourself. I think people like to share beautiful experiences with each other, even through a screen and without direct interaction. Even without knowing the person who's reacting.

Another important point is that it's much more satisfying when the person reacting has the same feelings about the source material as you do. It makes sense—people enjoy connecting with others who share their interests and tastes.

At this point, you might be wondering what's the point of this post. To be fair, I'm not sure. I justed wanted to write today and the easiest way to do that is to write about what you've done. No imagination required, you just need a keyboard and the ability to put words up on a digital screen. Not every blog post needs to change the world.

So here I am, on a Sunday afternoon, watching people's reactions to a phenomenal piece of music history. It's great...

...but I guess it's time for a walk outside now, after all this rambling.
