AI

How I use generative AI on this blog and in my life.

Writing

My blog posts are written in one of two ways:

  1. I don't use AI to write the initial draft of my blog posts, but I do use it to enhance them. I use a custom GPT on ChatGPT I made, called Blog Post Polisherβ„’ (can only be used with ChatGPT Plus). It's like a supercharged spelling checker. It fixes spelling mistakes and awkward sentences, while keeping my writing style intact. It also helps with meta descriptions and suggests post titles.
  2. I start a new conversation with ChatGPT with the following prompt:
    Prompt

I would like you to help me write a blog post following these steps:

    1. I will tell you all my thoughts in one giant, unstructured blurb. Like a stream of consciousness that misses all order. Please do not interrupt me until I say I'm done.
    2. When I'm done, please ask me any questions you'd like. You might ask questions to determine the structure of the final blog post. You might ask questions to clarify unclear things. Or ask any other kind of question that would lead to a better blog post. Make sure to ask one question at a time, then wait for my answer before asking the next question.
    3. When you're done asking all of your questions, please write the first draft of the final blog post. Make sure it uses the same tone of voice and words as my thoughts. Do not introduce any other fancy words or synonyms, keep the thoughts as they are. Do not read this first draft out to me in full, just write it down as plain text.

These steps will lead to a first draft of a blog post, which is your one and only task. Please do not do anything else. Thanks!

Then I start to ramble into ChatGPT using its voice mode. When I'm done, it asks me follow-up questions and finally drafts a first version of a blog post. I manually edit this version to reflect my writing style, if necessary.
This first draft generated by ChatGPT helps me on days where the cursor on a blank screen scared me too much to write.

Sometimes I use an AI-generated image that reflects the content of a blog post. That's literally what I ask when creating an image as well, for example: "Draw a black-and-white image for this blog post." I use ChatGPT (DALLΒ·E) to generate the image.
