Yordi - A Lifelong Journey of Growth

Filling Empty Space

Last week, I bought a 2x2 IKEA KALLAX storage unit to give my ever-growing vinyl collection a proper storage place. All those masterpieces should, of course, be on display. A centerpiece in my living room. And a 2x2 setup seemed like the bare minimum I needed. At least, that’s what I thought.

Said and done. I assembled the unit, put the records in. And yes, they fit perfectly... but they also would have fit in a 2x1 unit, with two compartments instead of four. So now I have a new first-world problem: the empty space needs to be filled. Like holes in bread, I’d rather not have them.

Filling empty space... I think we humans always do that, especially when it comes to time, though I don’t always use my time in the best way. If I get a week for an assignment that I know could be done in one or two days, I don’t spread the work across the week. No, I put it off until the last two days and then get annoyed with myself for not breaking it into smaller parts earlier. Apparently, I need a certain amount of pressure before I can get started and perform at my best.

In that sense, maybe buying a too-large storage unit wasn’t the best idea I’ve ever had. Oh well, I guess it’s time to head to the record store.
