FW: Blog Like a Painter

Blog like a painter: Robert Birming recently shared an insightful thought in his blog post:

"If you're a homeowner, you know how daunting it can feel to paint your entire house at once. [...] But what if you painted one side every other year? It suddenly becomes a much more manageable task. [...] Starting a blog can feel similarly overwhelming. [...] Let go of all that pressure. Start at your own pace, in your own way. Step by step, you'll build your blog on your own terms."

I couldn't agree more. But I also feel like it's easier said than done. This reminds me of a quote from Ray Klaassens, a former special forces soldier who now stars in a TV show where civilians train like him:

"You want to be it, but you don't want to become it."

We all want to be that great guitarist who can shred any solo. We all want to be the software developer that every company wants to hire. But do we want to go through the challenges and hard work that are required to become those people? If we don't recognize and go through what lies beneath the tip of the iceberg, we can forget about reaching those goals.

It's much easier to keep dreaming about who we want to be than to actually become that person.

Still, I know Robert's right. Working on your blog a little each day is nothing compared to the time and effort it takes to become that lead guitarist in the world's most famous rock-band.

So maybe starting to blog like a painter is the best way to improve not just your writing, but your life too. Little by little, step by step. Who knows where it might take you?
