Hoping for a Diamond
Recently I fell into the Instagram Reels trap where unknown artists play a snippet of their music and then offer one of their CDs for free. You only pay for shipping.
Until now I had ignored these videos, but after seeing the same artists pop up again and again (some of them multiple times) I finally gave in to the marketing algorithm. I waited while scrolling until the ones I liked most came back around, and for two of them I went ahead and bought the CD.
In a way, it's a remedy against the content machines of Spotify and Apple Music. Just discovering music again by occasionally buying a CD from an unknown artist. Maybe it'll disappoint and I'll have wasted a few euros. But then again: maybe I'll find a rough diamond, a singer I've been waiting for all these years.
We'll see. First, I'll just have to wait and see whether those CDs actually land on my doormat soon.
