Human vs. Machine: The Soul Behind the Story

With all the AI tools available today, I often think about the content they produce, and whether that content holds the same value as something made by a human. Is it really just about the content we consume, about the end result? Or is it also about the awareness of the process behind it? AI creates content in the blink of an eye, but when something is made by a human, it’s a different story. There’s blood, sweat, and tears behind it. Sleepless nights, endless trains of thought, soul-crushing writer’s block, and so on.

Whenever I read a book, watch a film, or play a game, I’m not actively thinking about all the work a writer, director, or developer put into it. In that moment, I’m simply enjoying the fantasy world I get to step into, a temporary escape from a sometimes (and currently more often than not) violent and cruel world.

But now that I know those same creations could just as well have been made by AI, I find myself increasingly wondering about the origin of the work I’m experiencing.

And I think that origin will become more and more important. I find that I’d really like to know whether what I’m consuming was created by an AI or by a human. A kind of stamp that shows what process led to the final result. Just like the texture of something you eat plays a key role in the overall taste, knowing that something you’re enjoying was made by human hands will become an essential part of the experience.

It’s a celebration of humanity. A kind of Morpheus figure, standing firm in his mission to defend humankind and everything beautiful about it, holding on to the belief that this conviction must prevail.

And human work absolutely must.
