Little Luxuries
I have developed the habit of staying the night at a hotel after a late-night concert. It's a privilege to be able to afford that, sure... it just lets me enjoy a concert so much more when I know I have no need at all to rush to the last train. Being able to slowly gaze at the merch store and having the time to wait in line for the artist's latest album on vinyl is also an added benefit.
After a recent concert and a relatively good night's sleep (I sometimes have to get used to new locations before I'm able to sleep all the way through the night), I had some breakfast at the hotel before I checked out and sat myself down in the café next door, which had just opened for business. It's not always that I keep hanging around in the concert's city, but I had some prep work to do for an athletics presentation I had to host the next day. The café had some dedicated tables for laptop workers (nice), so I found a cozy spot, ordered a good coffee, and began to work.
Now, it's far from the life of those remote beach workers who try to recommend their overpriced courses on YouTube, but I’m starting to get the joy of the life they try to sell. Being your own boss, enjoying the freedom to schedule your own time, and deciding on the work location yourself... The feeling that came over me was something entirely different compared to working a 9-to-5 behind a generic office desk. It's something that probably gets old after a few weeks, but right now it attracts like a... well, not a black hole, as that sounds a bit too dark, but you get what I mean.
Who knows, I might become my own boss one day. The possibilities are endless, and the future is bright.
