The Best Paths Appear as You Walk

If I open the Trending page on Bear Blog right now, the posts Trying to Blog More Often and Write whatever whenever (wherever) are right at the top. A bit further down the list, I also come across a piece titled Just write. All of these posts are about the challenge of writing something for your blog, even when you have no idea what it should be about. They encourage you to simply start, to pick up your pen and just see where you end up.

And that feels familiar. I too would like to blog more often. Maybe even daily. But too often, I wait for inspiration to strike in some magical way. And of course, it doesn’t. It’s like standing outside waiting for a rain shower to cool you down, while the sky is nothing but clear blue. It's like waiting at the station for the next train, when the last one of the day has just left.

Funny. I didn’t have those last two comparisons in my head just a few moments ago. They only came to me after I had already started typing. Inspiration doesn’t show up when you're staring at a blank page with a blinking cursor. It arrives later, once that empty page has started to fill up with words and sentences that weren't there before.

The world is full of paths. Paths you can walk on. But the best paths are the ones that only appear because you just laid your footsteps there.
