Vinyl Dreams and Croissant Detours

Today is Record Store Day: a worldwide celebration of physical record stores spruced up with some unique record deals. As I’ve started my own record collection this year, I thought it would be cool to check out what my local record store had to offer. It opened an hour early compared to normal Saturdays, so I set my alarms, had a quick breakfast, jumped on my bike, and entered the store's street right at opening time.

And you wouldn’t believe what happened next.

Well, you probably would, actually—but I just didn’t really expect it. There was a line, starting at the store’s entry and circling all the way around into a normally very busy shopping street. Now, I know records have gained some popularity again, but I didn’t think it was to the extent where so many people would queue up to get those limited releases.

Hurray for Record Store Day, much boo for me.

More so because I hate lines. I hate waiting. And as I get older, I feel that hate only increases as life passes by. The further you are in life, the more you realize that time picks up speed. Waiting for anything does not line up with that.

Fortunately, while I saw some unique records that would be worth buying, it wasn’t a necessity to do so. And because Saturdays are long, I went back home, enjoyed a second breakfast with croissants, and decided to have another go at it in the afternoon.

And now I’m waiting again. Not in line this time, but at home. Waiting for the afternoon to arrive—and with it, a next bike trip to the city record store.

Life is funny like that.
