Yordi - A Lifelong Journey of Growth

Where Darkness Meets the Light

Kutná Hora. An old, medieval town about an hour train ride from Prague that would do well as the setting for a videogame. Narrow streets with cobblestones sway between buildings, some of them leading to cozy courtyards you won't find if you'd stick to the main road.

Of course, there's St. Barbara's Church. There's no denying that this magnificent building is the highlight of anyone's visit. It's majestic, glorious, both from the in- and outside. There's no way you can leave this town without having at least spotted it.

But, my eyes are build different. They spot St. Barbara's, sure, but that's not all. They spot the little. The small. The thing many tourists would walk by, drawn to the grandness of the cathedral. I don't blame them. But if you look closely, if you pay attention, you can spot a little chapel, with stairs descending down into it. Walking down, my eyes have to adjust to the darkness, but at the same time I see the light. It's like a movie scene, a canvas on which darkness and sunlight meet somewhere in the middle.

Light can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.

Dark, moody black-and-white photo of a vaulted stone crypt or chapter room, lit by a single arched window casting light onto the paved floor, with wooden benches beneath the pillars on either side.
